KMFDM - "Tohuvabohu" Album CoverKMFDM – “Looking for Strange”

Why this song doesn’t suck:
I’ll be the first to admit that “Looking for Strange” from Germany’s industrial rock veterans KMFDM is neither the band’s heaviest, most complex or hell, best song… but I’ll be goddamned if it isn’t just about the catchiest tune that’s ever graced my much-abused eardrums. I’ve listened to it more times than I can recall, and without fail I enjoy it every time. One advantage to KMFDM is you’re never quite sure what you’ll be hearing from song to song… they’re known to mix numerous genres in their work, and while it always bears some industrial leanings, it certainly keeps things interesting.

Whatever style they happen to be using at any given time, being an adamant fan of Lucia Cifarelli’s vocals on KMFDM’s last several albums, I’m probably slightly more partial to any song she so happens to grace. Throughout this track her voice sounds excellent, and when layered with Sascha Konietzko’s menacing performance during the chorus, the vocals are really given a refreshing, if not slightly ominous, feel. Like being at a rave where at any moment you could be drill-shanked Hostel style. How exciting!

While usually drawn to KMFDM’s metal-tinged tunes (big surprise), I find this almost dance club-ish song impossible to turn off. If I start uncontrollably flailing, pacifier in mouth and glow sticks in hand, please feel free to dropkick me in the sinuses. But until then, leave my face alone… it’s going to be busy getting rocked the fuck off.

I found this song to be an immediate favorite from this album. This is definitely a shoe in for my future playlist “The Allchin Collection: Music To Get A Speeding Ticket To”.
