Amorphis - Silent WatersAmorphis – “Towards and Against “
From the album: Silent Waters

Why this song doesn’t suck:
“Towards and Against” from Amorphis’ 2007 album Silent Waters is undoubtedly one badass, rocking track. Starting slow and with lead singer Tomi Joutsen’s soothing vocals, the full-fledged kick in the nuts when the song starts cranking just moments later is a pleasant, headbang-inducing surprise. Jousten provides some seriously vicious death metal growls as the rest of the Amorphis crew provides a good dose of heavy fucking metal.

I like most of what Amorphis have put out for the last several years. Unlike some who rue the day they strayed from the death metal roots to more dynamic, melodic pastures, I embrace it fully. From their first real harmoneous dabblings with Am Universum and Far From the Sun, to original vocalist Pasi Koskinen’s departure soon after and Joutsen’s coming into the fold for 2006’s Eclipse, and now Silent Waters. Amorphis have released quality material for more than 15 years, and when their new album, Skyforger, drops in May, you better beleive I’ll be excited to check it out.

I dedicate this post to Wanda. She likes these guys I guess…

I’ve always wondered what these guys sounded like. I’ll have to check out more sometime though this track didn’t impress me a whole lot. The tone of the guitars bothers me, sounds really weak or something.

  2. Wanda

OMG. Yes! You know I love these guys. I cannot wait for their new stuff to come out!

Yo Trav, I would recommend just picking up any of their albums and giving it a full listen. The songs are all quite varied, which I enjoy… a good mix of soft and heavy. I started with “Eclipse” so I’d recommend you start there. Good stuff.

Yeah.. Of the 2 CD’s they have out with the new singer, I love both, but prefer Eclipse over Silent Waters.
