Ghost ReveriesOpeth – “The Grand Conjuration”
From the album: Ghost Reveries

Why this song doesn’t suck:
From the first moment to the last, “The Grand Conjuration” cannot be described as anything but one huge, angry metal-to-the-bone song. Progressive death metal giants Opeth have always been a band to expand on their sound and create music of epic, sprawling proportions, and this song is no different. One of my favorite tracks off their 2005 album, Ghost Reveries, this song is 10 and a half minutes of creative and haunting guitar licks, intense drumming and a mix of ominous to absolutely brutal vocals as provided by band mainman, Mikael Akerfeldt.

I absolutely love the way Opeth can mix slower, softer element with what what can only be called “totally fucking brutal” elements into a single song. Mikael has an amazing singing and growling voice, and any song that can showcase that is aces in my book. The entire Ghost Reveries album is fantastic and I would recommend it to anyone that wants to get their head banging while not getting bored and enjoying some complexity and unique sound structure. Enough of the babbling… get those devil horns out and press play above.

Blackwater Park is the only album of their’s that I consider even remotely good all the way through, but this is one of the few songs that I like thats not on that album.
