XBox 360 + Winamp Remote = Win.
May 18th, 2008 12:04 am

Awwww... they like eachother.Since getting my (se)XBox 360, I’ve been having a great time playing GTA4, COD4 and a number of XBox Live Arcade games. It’s the first console I’ve owned since my Nintendo 64 and I’m really having a blast with it. Overall, I think it’s an excellent addition to my ever-growing arsenal of overpriced electronic toys. There was one thing, however, I was having a bitch of time to get working: streaming my music and videos from my computer to the XBox.

I wanted to explodify some bitches to the soothing voice of King Diamond and here was my XBox being a total cockblock. I couldn’t seem to get the damn thing to see anything on my laptop. I wasn’t lucky enough to have Windows Media Center Edition and even after adding them to Windows Media Player’s library and sharing it out, the XBox still couldn’t detect anything… and jesus, did it take a long time to get everything added (I guess that’s the downside of having nearly 130GB’s of music).

However, after some research, I finally found an easy solution to my problem. It’s name is Winamp Remote.

This sexy little program uses Orb, which I’d played around with a bit before I acquired my iPod. Essentially, it lets you stream your music and video over the intertubes to nearly any device that can get on the web. Install, choose the directories you keep your music and videos, and HAZAH, your media is streamified. This is very useful if, say, you wanted to listen to the new Pyramaze album you “acquired” overnight or catch up on that episode of The Office you downloaded the other day. Simply log into Winamp Remote’s site and stream it from your machine at home. But, as I mentioned before, it’s greatest advantage is getting shit to load up on your XBox.

After signing up and getting the program installed on my laptop, I was able to select the ORB device from the XBox’s device selection screen, and I’ll be damn… I could play my music and watch my Divx videos in the comfort of my couch! Such convenience!

That’s right… the goddamn Ghostbusters! At last I can live out my inner-most childhood fantasies! Looks pretty impressive.

On topic, I recently bought an XBox 360, so I apologize in my lack of updates as of late. I just can’t seem to pull myself away from Grand Theft Auto IV and Call of Duty 4. I now know what my life has been missing. haha Updates coming soon.

Ah, Spring…

My view.So how can I justify sitting here on my computer and updating my website on such an amazingly beautiful Thursday evening? Easy. By bringing my laptop out to my patio table, throwing back a few Oberon, and enjoying my great view of pines, wildlife (numerous geese, ducks, and other birds) and the pond with bonus water-spewing fountain action. This has to be the nicest day of Spring yet… I’m so glad I got out of work early enough tonight to take some time to enjoy it.

I have to say that my apartment features one of the best views in this entire complex. I’m fortunate to not have to stare at the side of another building, or more specifically, directly into the opposite apartment (as I know I couldn’t help myself from doing). Look out through my slider and what do I see, you ask? Water, grass, trees, and an abundance of pine needles. Yes, once and a while my peaceful little scene is broken by a passing car on the far road or someone walking their dog / riding their bike past my building, but overall I’m very happy with the aesthetics of my apartment’s surroundings.

I’m so glad Spring is finally here. I feel like I’ve been waiting years for it to get warm enough out to open up the sunroof, roll down the windows and enjoy a nice cruise in my new car as the warm wind whips by my extended elbow. I’m in a good mood tonight… the simple fact that I can smell someone grilling nearby probably helps improve my prospective quite a bit.

Ah, Spring…
