Why this song most certainly doesn’t suck:
I’m going to start off my new Music That Doesn’t Suck series with a special one (to me at least). My first encounter with Mercenary was roughly 3 years ago, thanks in part to a Shoutcast station that was kind enough to treat my ears to the band’s unique brand of Dannish asskickery. Since then, I’ve been a huge fan of their entire catalog, which spans the last decade and includes a grand total of 5 albums. They’re pretty consistent with releasing a  new album of  power metal influenced melodeath awesomeness every two years or so, their last of which, “Architect of Lies”, was released this year (and yes, it’s amazing).

2008: A New Movie Theater Record!
December 15th, 2008 9:07 am

OMGOMGPopcorn! As some of you may remember, I’ve been compulsively saving the movie tickets from every flick I hit up in the theater for the last, oh, 11 years or so. A while back, I decided to take all of these tickets out of their dank, carboard prison and add them to a shiny new Excel spreadsheet (and no, I didn’t get rid of the physical tickets after that… they’re still safe and sound in my desk drawer). Check here for the original post.

I took some time this weekend to do a quick update to the list with the latest batch of tickets I’ve collected since the end of the busy Summer movie season. And this year’s by far the winner! With a few movie-going weeks left in 2008, here’re the results so far:

Number of Movies Seen: 47
Total Spent on Movies: $376.25
Total Amount of Time: 86 Hours 12 Minutes

Now, though I do count movies I see more than once into these totals, I think this has been the most successful movie-going year of my life. And just for the hell of it, I’ve posted the complete list of the movies I’ve seen this year directly from my spreadsheet, complete with date, time, cost, and runtime… kind of puts things in perspective when you have to actually scroll through the numerous flicks I’ve spent my weekends basking in the glow of. Oh, and feel free to make fun of me for seeing some of these numerous times… it was totally worth every penny.

Now, onto breaking the 50 mark!

The Day the Earth Stood Still Movie PosterDirected by: Scott Derrickson
Starring: Keanu Reeves, Jennifer Connelly, Jaden Smith, Kathy Bates
Released: December 12, 2008
2 Stars!

“The Day the Earth Stood Still” follows the story of Klaatu (Keanu Reeves), and alien visitor who comes to Earth to give an important message to all the leaders of our planet. This turns out to be a difficult task when he is first shot, then help captive by a scared and confused U.S. government. With the help of Gort, a giant robot accompanying Klaatu that is only used in times of violence, Klaatu delivers his message in a destructive and terriffying manner. Dr. Helen Benson (Jennifer Connelly) and her son Jacob (Jaden Smith) are the only people that can convince Klaatu that we have a chance as a species… that we can be saved. But is it already too late? Dunn-duunnn-DUUUUUNNNN!

Now, be warned… ahead thar be spoilers!

After much thought and several months of (slowly) working behind the scenes to get the new Heavy Metal Geek website launched, I came to a rather obvious and much-delayed realization. I found I wasn’t as inspired to create a new website as I felt I should be. Hell, I had a perfectly good website being all but completely neglected by your’s truly just sitting in the tubes collecting dust. What I realized was I just love this Bloodtrocuted website too damn much to dump it in favor of a new one with a, shall I say, “zazzier” name.

So! Here we are! I’ve decided instead to simply update the name of this website to something that better reflects what I feel it should be about: unadulterated geekdome with a healthy side of heavy fucking metal. Plus it will be nice to give someone this URL in person and not have to repeat it half a dozen times before they undertsand what the hell I’m talking about.

I will slowly be adding content that was planned out for the now-defunct HMG site in the coming weeks, so be expecting some new content along with some much needed design and layout updates soon (yeah, I know… you’ve heard that before, right?).

Keep on truckin’ metalheads. Peace.

Fuck.

Yeah yeah yeah… I still suck. Work’s been uber busy the last couple months and my home PC has been on the fritz. Additionally, I’m trying to get things figured out for Heavy Metal Geek and that has been taking much longer than intended. While things have slowed down considerably for this site the last while, the site is certainly not dead. I promise.
